(J Crew’s Spring 2012 lookbook)
I’ve resisted colored pants over the years, worried that the trend was only for teens, but as I see those eye-popping colors landing in stores again for Spring, I must admit that I’m tempted. I find myself gazing at those emerald pants like they are my one chance to be somebody more daring for the day. Other days I bravely try on a pair of red trousers and all I see are thick sticks of licorice where my legs used to be. The trick to dabbling in this trend, I realized, is finding the color that best suites my personality. If colored denim could speak, what would it say about you?
This year’s hottest colors:
FIRE ENGINE RED: You are fierce, sassy, and probably enjoy singing loudly in the shower. More often than not, you find yourself being the life of the party, but you always give full credit to the pants.
EMERALD GREEN: The newest member to the colored denim-crew, this earthy color is for the eclectic and laid-back girl. You are adventurous and calm, like your jeans, and not afraid to pair your denim with converse one day and heels the next.
COBALT BLUE: Sure you’re trendy and artistic, but you don’t like to draw too much attention, so you stick with the quirky yet subtle blue jean. That, along with your quiet confidence, makes you all the more mysterious.
NEON YELLOW: You are a ball of sunshine, so why not dress the part? You will march those bright jeans all around town, sprinkling your infectious smiles and cheer every step of the way. Strut on soldier!
While I’m positive that I have enough sass to fill those red jeans and more, I still find the green pair exotically appealing. And why shouldn’t I embrace the green? Deep down, don’t we all have a little bit of each hidden within us? Ladies, it’ time to embrace your quirks and embrace the colored pants. Because if you can’t have fun and be yourself in fashion, then what’s the point?
Once you brave the colors, simply pair them with a basic white tee, a similar color for the monochromatic look, or a contrasting neon for extra spunk. You can even find these candy-colored brights in all price ranges, from Old Navy and Target to Gap and J Crew. Now go forth and color the streets with colored denim, one bright and cheerful color at a time.
